10 Most Epic Star Wars Lightsaber Duels

This list reads better if you listen to Duel of the Fates.

Star Wars fans can be very opinionated, but Original Trilogy fans, Prequels fans, Sequels fans, Clone Wars fans, Rebels fans, video games fans, comics fans, EU fans, Disney fans, Last Jedi fans, Last Jedi antis, and even fans who somehow like everything except for the Original Trilogy can agree on one thing: lightsaber fights are awesome.

A play on the classic sword fight, there's something so satisfying about hearing the lightsaber's iconic whirring noise as a Jedi or Sith lights it up. When the blades actually clash, the scene becomes even more stunning to watch than traditional sword fights.

As the Star Wars franchise grew, lightsaber fights became more and more important and iconic. In the first Star Wars film, which was released in 1977, featured only one quick lightsaber fight, consisting of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader simply poking at each other with blue and red sticks. Now, lightsabers not only play a major role in nearly every film, TV episode, comic, or game, but they have a complex lore behind them, becoming more than just a Jedi's weapon.

While some lightsaber fights are quick and simple, like the original, others become all encompassing, epic showdowns.

Here are the ten most epic Star Wars lightsaber duels.

10. Count Dooku Vs. The Nightsisters - The Clone Wars

Star Wars Phantom Menace Darth Maul
Lucasfilm

When Count Dooku leaves Asajj Ventress for dead, he turns his apprentice into an enemy. Ventress returns to the Nightsisters, her old clan, and they hatch a plan to get revenge on Dooku. Armed with Jedi's lightsabers, Ventress and two other Nightsisters ambush Dooku, but not before blinding him with a poisonous dart.

Dooku takes on the three Nightsisters all at once, using the Force to guide him instead of his eyes. He holds his own, despite not being able to see them, until the trio disarm him. As Ventress prepares to kill him, Dooku conjures Force lightning to immobilize the three mid-air, and tosses them out of his window.

This lightsaber duel is among the most creative in all of Star Wars: A man who cannot see against the people who blinded him. It also shows just how powerful Dooku is in the Force, since he can defeat the Nightsisters even without his vision. Since Ventress and the Nightsisters appear only in Clone Wars, never the films, any moment in this fight feels like it could be their last.
