The fifth season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars shows just how powerful Maul can be, especially with his brother Savage Opress at his side. This fight, from the episode The Lawless, reminds us of how insignificant the brothers really are.

When Palpatine senses Maul's rise on Mandalore, he flies out there to kill him, since his survival violates the rule of two. While Maul still looks up to his old master, Palpatine lacks any sentimentality, and takes him and his brother on with ease. With Palpatine dual wielding red lightsabers, Savage using his double-sided red blade, and Maul using his single-sided weapon, the first half of the fight comes across as a flurry of red.

As hard as the brothers fight, they are still no match for Palpatine, who reveals he's just been toying with them as he kills Savage with ease. An enraged Maul picks up his Darksaber and comes at Palpatine with two swords, but still can barely land a hit on him. Palpatine defeats Maul, but spares him, saying he has other plans for him.

This fight shows that, despite how powerful they seem, no one can match Darth Sidious.
