10 Most Epic Star Wars Lightsaber Duels

2. Duel Of The Fates - The Phantom Menace

Not that there's much competition, but this three way lightsaber fight is by far the best moment in The Phantom Menace.

During the Battle of Naboo, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan take on Darth Maul in the Theed power generator. Maul uses his signature double-bladed lightsaber for the first time, and the three person lightsaber battle takes them onto a long series of bridges in the Theed palace. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan work in tandem, but with his two blades, Maul can hold them back.

The fight utilizes its setting better than any other, with the combatants jumping from ledge to ledge, and the power cutting in and out separates Obi-Wan from Qui-Gon and Maul just long enough for the Sith Lord to kill Obi-Wan's master. Angered, Obi-Wan charges at Maul, only to be knocked down. When Maul hesitates for a second too long before defeating Obi-Wan for good, the Padawan uses the force to jump back up and slice Maul in half, "killing him."

Plus, this scene is accompanied by "Duel of the Fates," one of composer John Williams's best, most epic pieces ever.
