10 Most Evil Characters In The Lord Of The Rings
9. Gorbag
One of the creepier orcs in the trilogy, was the orc Captain who captured the paralysed Frodo Baggins at the pass of Cirith Ungol. In the extended editions, we're treated to a further examination of his relationship with the Shagrat, a Black Uruk who tried to steal Frodo's Mithril shirt.
The interaction demonstrated the unruly nature of the different orc groups, and their propensity to squabble with one another. Their disagreement over Frodo's belongings ignited a fight between the regular orcs of Mordor and the larger, Black Uruks. The infighting ultimately benefitted Sam, who when trying to rescue Frodo from their clutches, discovered they had all killed one another.
In the books the roles of Shagrat and Gorbag are reversed slightly. Gorbag is actually the commander of the Uruks and serves the Nazgûl in Minas Morgul. He and Shagrat discuss the war, admitting that they fear it's not going as well as it should be. They even consider going off on their own and setting up an orc hideout. Eventually, however, Gorbag tries to steal the Mithril shirt but is killed by Shagrat.
