4. Aldrich Killian "Creates" The Mandarin
Money is power in the eyes of the majority of Marvel's villains, and for Iron Man 3's Aldrich Killian, the most profitable business is that of War.
The founder of Advanced Idea Mechanics, and the creator of Extremis, an experimental treatment which can heal the human body to great effect, Aldrich Killian see's his creation as gateway to absolute power. Looking to sell Extremis to the US Government in order to create an almost unstoppable army, Killian creates a catalyst that will kick-start an intense war on terrorism, leading to the government taking full use of Extremis.
That catalyst is The Mandarin.
A seemingly maniacal terrorist leader, with unknown numbers of followers, and a desire to see the western world crumble, The Mandarin is simply a creation of Killian's, portrayed to the media by the bumbling actor, Trevor Slattery.
Through the use of The Mandarin's image though, Killian is able to stage bombings all over the globe, claiming the lives of thousands, and even putting Tony Stark's best friend, Happy Hogan, in the hospital with severe injuries. Through these bombings, Killian hopes to convince the world that an Extremis-powered army is the right course of action in combating 'The Mandarin' and his followers, and go on to reap the profits as a result.
Selfish and uncaring, Aldrich Killian may not have been the most physically dominant villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (at least, until late in the film), but he certainly has one of the most demented minds yet seen in the MCU.
