10 Most Exciting New Additions To The MCU
3. Kurt Russell As Ego
Guardians Of The Galaxy already had a pretty 80s vibe to it with the soundtrack and space opera feel, but James Gunn seems keen to stick to that direction with Vol. 2 as evidenced by his inclusion of not only Stallone, but also the great Kurt Russell. I mean, he put Tango and Cash in a Marvel movie together? Sign me up.
Anyone who follows Gunn on social media knows that he's a massive John Carpenter fan, so the casting of Russell seems only fitting. While he's been doing great work in westerns recently, it will be a treat to see him apart of a gonzo genre-bending film again like Big Trouble In Little China. But the casting is only a part of what makes this so exciting since the character might be the boldest move Marvel has ever made.
Russell will be playing Ego the Living Planet, a shape-shifting being whose true form is an actual planet who is also the father of Peter Quill. Gunn said long before that when he presented his vision of the movie that Marvel execs called it "risky" and it's beginning to be clear why But in casting Russell, he's got a strong foundation for his bravery.
