6. Devastation At Bobbys House (X2: X-Men United)
20th Century FoxThe aforementioned scene in which Bobby reveals his mutant ability to his prejudiced parents is a little too blunt, but the brief interlude at his suburban home does produce one of the most visceral moments of all seven films. Pyro was never a memorable presence in the original films, and his ability to manipulate fire is mostly underused. This scene, in which Bobbys house is surrounded by the police, is a notable exception. Wolverine, in a display of iron-clad logic, responds to an officers request that he drop the knives by pointing his claws at the man, who (not entirely unreasonably) shoots him in the head. Rogue is terrified and both she and Iceman surrender, but Pyro takes a few shaky breaths and withdraws his lighter: You know all those dangerous mutants you hear about on the news? Im the worst one. Soon an entire fleet of police cars is aflame and only Rogues intervention saves the rest of the officers from Pyros brief rampage. Then Wolverine awakens and smirks at his dumbfounded would-be assassin, restoring the lighter tone, and the implications of the destruction here are only superficially explored later in the film. Its a pity, because this scene is a much-needed shot of adrenaline at one of X2s few slow moments.
