2. Wolverines Berserker Rage (X2: X-Men United)
20th Century FoxLike most comic book adaptations, the X-Men films have always been marketed to attract the widest audience possible in the blockbuster season, despite the fact that the most visible character in the series is a killing machine with knives on his knuckles. Wolverine is not a PG-13 type of guy, so hes usually removed from lethal situations via plot contrivances; the bullet to the head on Icemans porch in X2, which incapacitates him for an unusually long time, is a classic example. Alternatively, his death toll is pleasantly ignored, as in the assault on Xaviers mansion earlier in the film (which incidentally initially earned the movie an R rating), in which his berserker rage is finally unleashed. The scene itself is incredibly well-crafted in its depiction of the chaos at the school, and features a number of small cameos (including the apparently perpetual cameo character, Colossus), but the highlight is Hugh Jackman, who captures Wolverines tenuous self-control as he tears through Strykers men. Stryker himself then arrives and comes face to face with the former Weapon X, and Jackmans furious expression dissolves into complete bewilderment, which is a more satisfying nod to the mythology than the entirety of Origins. Its a spectacular set piece, but its also the best Wolverine fight in all of his seven appearances.
