10 Most Exhausted Horror Movie Protagonists
2. Sarah - The Descent
Neil Marshall's The Descent is often hailed as one of the greatest contemporary British horror films ever made. The premise of a group of friends who decide to go and explore a series of unchartered caves without telling anybody what they are doing is certainly going to catch any horror fan's attention - and boy does it do exactly that.
From the get-go you are introduced to Sarah, a Scottish woman who has unfortunately lost both her husband and daughter in a fatal car accident and is trying to regain autonomy over her own life following this ordeal. A year after the accident, Sarah travels to meet her thrill-seeking friends that she often engages with in extreme sports and the group embark on their cave expedition.
One by one, the group are killed by humanoid creatures that have evolved to live within the caves and feed on a purely carnivorous diet. Sarah is the 'final girl' in the film, and survives purely thanks to her own determination and tactical mind. Everything about her in the last stretch of the film exudes exhaustion, and after having to kill one of her closest friends after finding out about an affair she was having with Sarah's deceased husband, you can only imagine what sort of disrepair her psyche must have been in.
