10 Most Hated Lord Of The Rings Characters
8. Isildur
At the very beginning of The Fellowship of the Ring, Galadriel described the hearts of men as being easily corrupted, however what she might as well have said is that Isildur's heart was easily corrupted. It was technically he who allowed the events of the story to even happen at all.
When Sauron first looked to hold dominion over the entirety of Middle-earth, there was a vast army of Elves and Men that came together to stop him.
The bloody battle on the slopes of Mount Doom was all to defeat Sauron and his chief weapon, the Ring of Power. Countless soldiers died, including Isildur's own father, just for the opportunity that was presented to him.
With the shards of Narsil, Isildur struck the Ring from Sauron's hand, and with victory all but assured, he simply had nothing to do but cast it back into the fires of Mount Doom. However, he was corrupted and greedy, and decided to keep the power for himself.
Had he just listened to Elrond, and done what he knew had to be done, he could have spared the world from any more death and darkness, yet he would risk no hurt to his precious ring. He is the epitome of Man's corruption, greed, and stupidity.
