10 Most Horrifically Disturbing Children's Movies Ever Made

Honourable Mention: The Hunchback Of Notre Dame (1996)

d-hell-3 Before I plough onwards, I want to briefly mention Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame, which - despite claims that it "dumbed down" the incredibly dark and twisted nature of the novel on which it is based - still manages to be pretty damn adult for a movie in the prestigious animated Disney classics canon. That's to say, Hunchback doesn't make the top 10 because it still manages to stay relatively "Disney," but there are some points to consider. For starters, Hunchback decides to include a plot point about the villain's dark and twisted desires to have sexual relations with Esmeralda, the movie's gypsy love interest. There's even a song about it and everything, where he decides that he must burn her alive in order to rid himself of his perverted thoughts. That song is called "Hell Fire." I mean, this is disturbing stuff, right? Then there's all the religious iconography scattered throughout, which is plainly terrifying. A great, deceivingly disturbing movie, this one. Underrated, too.
