A lot of Jim Henson's career seemed to be based around the idea of scaring all the children who were naturally drawn to his puppet-y creations, and I'd pay a lot of money to find out how or why he inflicted the nightmare that is
The Dark Crystal upon the planet. I mean, it's a great movie, don't get me wrong, but is it suitable for the kind of people mostly likely to watch it? No way. This is made clear by the death of the Skeksis Emperor scene. For one, just look at this guy. Physically, he's terrifying - a kind of bird-reptile hybrid monster, coughing and spluttering on his death bad with a bunch of guys crowded around him. I don't know about you, but that's disturbing. Fact is, the moment that the Skeksis Emperor passes away in
The Dark Crystal probably isn't the weird bit. That's the part where the Emperor's corpse suddenly starts rotting and breaks into a dozen pieces and your parents have to pay for 6 months of therapy.
