4. Hopper Gets Eaten Alive By Baby Birds - A Bug's Life
Oh, look! Another Disney death where an animal is seen being eaten alive by another animal! Yes, in Pixar's largey underrated
A Bug's Life, dorky inventor ant Flick decides to stand up against a tyrannical grasshopper named Hopper who frequents their nest and steals all their food. Basically, it's
The Magnificent Seven with insects. The climatic centre-piece of the movie comes when Flik decides to build a fake bird in order to trick Hopper into fleeing. Hopper finds out, beats the crap out of Flik, and then goes totally freakin' insane. Just as he's about to murder Flik, though, a real bird approaches - Hopper, dumber than he looks, thinks that it's a fake bird again, and provokes the animal into snapping him up into its beak. Pixar don't just end it there like they could've, with the bird taking Hopper away to be consumed. We watch in horror as this grasshopper foe is taken to a nest and lowered into the mouths of three baby birds, who are over the moon to see what mother has brought back for them. This is, truly, an understated (and wholly primal) moment of sheer horror.
