Live-action anime adaptations are ripe with horrifying translations from animation to live-action. But it doesn't really feel fair to harp on them too much, considering that their job of taking designs so thoroughly rooted in this highly specific art form and turning them into believable and respectful live-action designs is pretty much impossible.

However, there is no excuse for what the makers of Dragonball Evolution did to poor Piccolo.

Let's be clear; none of the designs in Dragonball Evolution are good. Turning Goku into an Edward Cullen-esque white dude is, uhm, problematic, to say the least. But of all the characters from the source material, Piccolo seemed like the easiest slam dunk to convert to a stellar live-action design.

His more alien features practically lend themselves to an H. R. Giger-esque design that a talented crew could have absolutely knocked out of the park. Instead, what audiences got was the dullest gentrification of the character imaginable.

Gone were the stark greens and purples the defined his color palette, the antennas, and even his elongated pointy ears. In their place was just a faintly green dude with a big head.
