The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have a long and strange history. But at their core, they're four turtles wearing ninja garb and anyone who can't see the inherent joy in such a concept is just not my kind of person.

Their animated designs in the original comics and cartoons were always stellar, and they even did get one notably solid live-action iteration with the trilogy of films in the nineties, whose suits may seem a bit dated now but at least preserved what was so great in the animation.

Conversely, 2014 saw the dawn of a brand new crop of live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and these CGI monstrosities were about as far from the original designs as humanly possible. They fit the bill of being in a film produced by Michael Bay pretty well. Just like the designs of his Transformers, these Turtles' designs were overly busy, devoid of color or creativity, and just flat-out ugly to look at.

The sequel, Out of the Shadows, attempted to clean things up a bit but ultimately still failed to deliver a solid modern iteration of these designs.
