When T2: Trainspotting (because a simple Trainspotting 2 is for dorks) was first announced, it's fair to say that many people were feeling very anxious. Although the first Trainspotting has gone on to stand the test of time and become one of the most iconic British films ever made, could lightning really be caught in the heroin needle for a second time? It's been just over 20 years since the original was made, however, the makers have slowly, but surely, soothed our fears.

Danny Boyle has been waiting a long time to make a sequel and he has finally got his wish. T2 (no Schwarzenegger included) is based on Irvine Welsh's novel, Porno, which takes place 10 years after the original novel's events after each character has gone their separate ways only to wind up together again, so the strong source material is already there to be drawn from. And then the original cast, including Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremmer, Johnny Lee Miller, and Robert Carlyle all signed onto return. Bit by bit, excitement began to replace our nerves.

But the cherry on the cake came only recently when the first trailer was released. Seeing all of the characters onscreen again was enough to bring back the memories for old fans and new. The trailer captured the same wildness, energy, black humour, and Boyle's zesty direction - and don't forget the kick-ass soundtrack.

T2 also marks the only film in this list in which we here in the UK get to see it before everywhere else, with its release date on 27th January, and the US getting it in March. Of course Trainspotting is more of a cultural phenomenon in Britain, but to any US viewers that are yet to see the original - go watch it now, and join us in the excitement for the sequel.

Do you agree with the choices in this list? Or are you more excited for another film that we have left out? Let us know in the comments below!
