10 Most Hotly Anticipated Non-Blockbuster Films Of 2017
8. Get Out
Get Out, a horror film that shows how terrifying it can be to be a black man (which is more apt than ever after recent events in the United States), marks the directorial debut for Jordan Peele, one-half of the hugely popular comedy duo, Key & Peele. With Peele's already established comedy chops, it's fair to predict that this isn't going to be your ordinary horror film, and the trailer proved that to be true.
The trailer for Get Out is absurdly hilariously, or just plain absurd depending on your cinematic tastes. As with the most interesting trailers it split a lot of YouTube commenters down the middle, with some proclaiming it to look brilliant, while others arguing that it's a case of 'reverse racism'.
The latter claim is due to the fact that the story consists of a young black man with a white girlfriend who goes to visit her parents only to discover that they might actually be psychotic white supremacists. Of course it's 'reverse racism' because it's obviously painting the parents of every single white woman with a black boyfriend as racist through this fictional isolated incident!
Not only does the film promise to be scary, funny, and have something interesting to say about society, it also continues to brew excitement with a wonderful cast. The up-and-coming Daniel Kaluuya, who many will recognise in one of the best episodes of Black Mirror, Fifteen Million Merits, plays the young black man who is warned to "get out", while legendary actors Catherine Keener and Bradley Whitford play the potentially (but most probably) crazy parents.
Get Out is scheduled for release in February, so thankfully we don't have long to wait!
