10 Most Hyped Movies Of All Time (And How They Turned Out)
2. The Dark Knight (2008)
Ever since Tim Burton's Batman film was released in 1989, a bar was set for Gotham's hero that subsequent films failed to reach. Even Burton's second outing in the franchise was unable to capture the gravitas of his first, and the two that followed aren't worth mentioning.
It wasn't until Christopher Nolan took up the challenge of returning the Caped Crusader to the silver screen that fans had any hope of enjoying one of the greatest comic book characters of all time in another movie. Fortunately, 2005's Batman Begins proved to be such a hit, any movie that came after was sure to be amazing as well.
Enter 2008's The Dark Knight, which had an immense level of hype building off the success of its predecessor as well as Heath Ledger's performance. Ledger was so amazingly talented at playing the Joker, word of his performance in early screenings helped build the hype even more than it had been building before.
When fans finally saw the film, the hype was well-understood. This may have been a Batman film, but the real treat was Ledger's Joker. His performance earned him the first (and so far only) posthumous Academy Award, which just goes to show how good a job he did in portraying the Clown Prince of Crime.
