10 Most Important Comic Book Movies Ever Made

6. The Dark Knight

Regarded by many as not just the greatest comic book movie ever made but one of the best films of the 21st Century, The Dark Knight redefined the very idea of what a superhero blockbuster could be to the point that badmouthing Christopher Nolan's epic is now perceived as tantamount to cinematic heresy.

Fashioning an epic and sprawling crime saga under the guise of a comic book blockbuster, the rapturous critical reception saw the movie nominated for eight Academy Awards, the most ever for a film in the genre. However, many believe that it was snubbed for a Best Picture nod, which led to the Academy widening the field from five nominees in what was casually referred to as 'The Dark Knight Rule'.

The Empire Strikes Back of its generation, The Dark Knight delivers everything a great sequel should do, bolstered by a cast and crew all working at the top of their game (apart from a couple of sh*tty extras, right enough) with an influence that stretches far beyond the boundaries of the superhero genre and into populist filmmaking as a whole.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
