10 Most Improved MCU Characters

7. Hawkeye

Avengers Endgame Hawkeye
Marvel Studios

Putting Hawkeye here has one eye on the future, as he seems set for a much larger, much darker role in Endgame than we’ve seen him have previously. Still, he’s done enough in prior appearances to warrant inclusion, but the Endgame trailer certainly worked in his favour.

His first two appearances are difficult to judge him on, hence how he’s earned the position as one of the most improved. He’s restricted to a cameo in Thor which only really shows us that he works for SHIELD, and he’s being mind-controlled by Loki for a decent chunk of Avengers.

He managed to make archery both realistic and cool in the Battle For New York, but his development was still a little undercooked. The introduction of his family, the fact he gets the drop on (then bonds with) the Maximoffs, and his bitter speech to Tony at the end of Civil War all give him so much more depth.

His absence from Infinity War was noticeable and disappointing, but with his new hair, Roninesque costume the potential inclusion of Katherine Langford as Kate Bishop, Endgame is shaping up to be Hawkeye’s Magnum Opus.
