10 Most INAPPROPRIATE Scenes In Kids Movies
5. Weird Puberty Gags - Bambi (1942)
You might anticipate this film's appearance on this list due to the infamous death of the mother scene. Well, you'd be incorrect. Is it traumatic? Yes. But is it also done in the least traumatic way possible? Also yes; after all, they decided against including the shot of a bleeding deer corpse which was in the original storyboard.
Instead, the 1942 Disney adaptation of Bambi has ended up here because of one particular motif: twitterpation. Basically, our beloved Bambi and his two rapscallion pals Thumper and Flower all meet up in Spring and discover that they're all grown up.
And what comes with growing up? Puberty. And what comes with puberty? According to this film, uncontrollable randiness.
Now, explaining the birds and the bees via Bambi's cotton candy daydream is kind of sweet; when he meets childhood sweetheart Faline, Walt did a nice job of visually showing them fall for each other in their maturity.
So why dd they decide on such overt visual metaphors for the other two? Thumper's new girlfriend is given anthropomorphised anatomy that makes no sense for a rabbit - unless her first name is also Jessica.
Meanwhile, Flower's physical reaction to his new potential partner is very NSFW: his tail goes... *ahem*... "stiff," shall we say?
It went over our heads as little kids, but looking back... jeez, was it not subtle at all.
