10 Most Influential Directors Of All Time

3. Stanley Kubrick

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2MF4sBYUy4 In my opinion Stanly Kubrick is the greatest director of all time and the most well rounded filmmaker to ever live. Kubrick had a way of telling a story through film that has never been matched. The way he used the whole medium of cinema to his advantage makes his films still stand out to this day but also very invigorating to watch. He revolutionized every genre he worked with and he worked in a great deal of them. Paths of Glory and Full Metal Jacket represent two completely different views of war and have influenced every war film that was made after them. Dr. Strangelove is the darkest of all dark comedies and a film that has been massively copied throughout the years but never bettered. The Shining is the greatest example of horror filmmaking that you're likely to ever find and Barry Lyndon may very well be the most beautiful movie ever made. Kubrick's biggest and most important innovation was in the sci-fi genre with his epic masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey. There is no science fiction movie that came out after 2001 that wasn't influenced by Kubrick's use of special effects and music. Moon is a modern example of this while Alien shows just how influential 2001 was at the time. Kubrick created the most realistic special effects in cinematic history and even re-created the moon to its greatest screen incarnation 2 years before man made it there.

My favorite movies are Before Sunrise, Pulp Fiction, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Alien and Her so don't be surprised to see those pop up in my writing from time to time. I'm currently in school for Journalism/English and I have an obsession with all things cinematic on the side.
