10 Most Influential Directors Of All Time

2. Alfred Hitchcock

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RHDujSjOZk The master of suspense. Hitchcock's was a man who understood human psyche in a very disturbing way. He had an intuitive knowledge of what makes people afraid and how to hold an audience in terror. He was able to use voyeuristic camera angles and very clever MacGuffins to always keep the mystery of his plot at the forefront and always keep his audience intrigued. The way that he directed has become increasingly more and more mimicked as the years have progressed. Brian De Palma's early works like Obsession, Carrie and Dressed to Kill features heavy influence from Hitchcock and even mimics many of the famous auteur's stylistic trademarks like the steely blond and the wrongfully convicted man. There are also modern films like Stoker that have a strong Hitchcockian presence about them and Steven Soderbergh's final film Side Effects has an almost identical opening shot to Psycho.

My favorite movies are Before Sunrise, Pulp Fiction, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Alien and Her so don't be surprised to see those pop up in my writing from time to time. I'm currently in school for Journalism/English and I have an obsession with all things cinematic on the side.
