10 Most Insane Cameos In Recent Movies
5. Michael Shannon - A Different Man
It's always fun and usually pretty damn weird when an actor plays themselves in a movie, and even accepting the inherently meta nature of the brilliant, Oscar-nominated drama A Different Man, who could've ever expected Michael freakin' Shannon to show up?
Near the end of the film, Edward's (Sebastian Stan) life is basically falling apart piece by piece and he's effectively been replaced both personally and professionally by the charismatic Oswald (Adam Pearson).
As Edward sits at dinner with Oswald and his former lover Ingrid (Renate Reinsve), they're joined by Michael Shannon, as himself, who will be playing Edward in a movie based on his earlier life.
It's a darkly comedic scene which only further underlines how far Edward has fallen, all while Oswald and Ingrid - who are now together - continue to prosper, having roped in an actor of Shannon's repute to star in their movie.
As for how director Aaron Schimberg snagged Shannon for the part?
Though his script for the film simply listed a "famous actor" in the role, Shannon had seen the director's previous film, Chained for Life, and agreed to film the small role.
