8. El Chapo The Movie

There's an episode of The Simpsons in which Mr Burns responds to Springfield getting a film festival by making his own film, with Mexico's non-union Mexican counterpart "Señor Spielbergo" called A Burns for All Seasons that inevitably ends up being a circle jerk over his grandeur. He basically uses the film as an opportunity to paint himself as some sort of monumental, glorious legend and everyone laughs at him.

The reason I bring this up right now is because notorious drug lord El Chapo basically wanted to do the same thing, according to a witness in his trial. Alex Cifuentes, who used to be his “right-hand man” in his own words revealed the cinematic plans in Brooklyn federal court. He learned about the movie while living with El Chapo in Mexico between 2007 and 2009.

And not content with being the star, the drug lord had planned to direct the movie himself, which would no doubt have led to an absolutely impartial tale of his rise to infamy that in no way painted a skewed look of his life or of the justice system that definitely unjustly hounded him. It writes itself.
