8. The Hangover Part II
When The Hangover made $467 million on a $35 million budget, it became the highest-grossing R-rated comedy of all time. Warner Bros immediately ordered more of the same, and that’s exactly what the filmmakers delivered.
It seems strange that after waking up from a stag party to discover that they’ve lost their friend somewhere in Las Vegas, the same people could wake up from another stag party to discover that they’ve lost another friend somewhere in Thailand, but that’s how it goes sometimes. We would’ve made allowances if this sequel had been as funny and inventive as the first one, but instead it’s repetitive and clunky.
Mike Tyson and Ken Jeong return, and the filmmakers wring as many laughs as possible out of a monkey carrying a severed finger, but it’s too bad that the cast and crew balked at a proposed cameo by Mel Gibson. His alcohol fuelled rants are hilarious.
