10 Most Insulting Movie Sequels Ever

6. Kick-Ass 2

Live Free Or Die Hard Bruce Willis

The original Kick Ass was no ordinary superhero movie, and credit where it’s due, the sequel is also not your average caped crusader flick either. Unfortunately, that’s where the flattering part of the comparisons end.

Where the first film took Mark Millar’s edgy source material, kept the funniest ideas and coolest sequences, and toned down the hyper-bleak nihilism, the sequel makes the mistake of trying to have it both ways. Both more broadly comic and darker than its predecessor, Kick Ass 2 fails as both an adaptation and a follow-up to the first film.

Despite the presence of Jim Carrey (who soon disowned the film) and Chloe Grace Moretz the sequel never comes together, aiming for funny and landing on cruel far too often.

The best encapsulation of the sequel’s failure comes in the attempted rape scene by the villain Motherf***er (a slumming-it Christopher Mintz-Plasse). A dark, humourless moment of character-defining depravity in the source material, here it becomes… er, an extended joke about erectile dysfunction. You know, just what you want in your hyper kinetic superhero satire.
