10 Most Intelligent Horror Movie Monsters

1. Azazel - Fallen

Wishmaster movie
Warner Bros.

Fallen centres around a detective called Hobbes who is being hounded by Azazel, a demon who can possess anyone he touches.

As the story progresses, it becomes unmistakably clear how smart Azazel is. The lord of hell has been body-hopping for thousands of years, without anyone managing to put him down for good. If his host is killed, Azazel automatically transfers his essence into a nearby body, making him borderline immortal.

After Hobbes interferes with Azazel's plans, the devilish spirit possesses the detectives' family and co-workers to mess with his mind. He makes his hosts commit crimes, compelling Hobbes to shoot innocent people. These incidents cause the police to turn against Hobbes, much to Azazel's delight.

In the climax, Hobbes seemingly outsmarts Azazel by beckoning him to an isolated cabin. After fatally wounding Azazel's host, Hobbes poisons himself, so the fallen angel has no one to body-hop to.

Or so it seems. In the final moments, it's revealed that Azazel survived by transferring his consciousness into a nearby cat. Although Hobbes came closer than anyone in history in stopping the malignant fiend once and for all, his plan wasn't good enough. With no one else around to stop Azazel, it looks like the fallen angel will continue to wreak havoc on humanity, with no end in sight.
