10 Most Intense Pixar Movie Moments

1. Helen Tries To Avoid The Missiles - The Incredibles

Though The Incredibles can be enjoyed by people of all ages, the story is more for adults than children. The plot centres around a man who hates his job, misses his glory days, argues with his partner, and craves a greater sense of purpose.

So, like many other superheroes, Bob falls for Syndrome’s nostalgic scheme and ends up captured on an isolated island. Helen, having located her husband with some help from Edna, approaches the island in a jet. Violet and Dash also sneak onboard, and before long, the three of them are being hunted down by a set of missiles.

The constant escalation of tension is what makes this scene so great. Holly Hunter’s panicked delivery is perfect, and the fact that Bob overhears his wife’s pleas is also fundamental to the intensity.

At first, Helen manages to take out some of the missiles with her flying skills, but she knows she can’t hold them off forever. Desperate to avoid being blown up, she instructs Violet to put a forcefield around the plane. When watching the movie for the first time, you assume Violet is going to pull it off – but she doesn't. The missiles hit their target, forcing Helen to grab her children and form a parachute.

Pixar have produced 21 movies since the release of The Incredibles back in 2004, but this moment is still the most intense thing they’ve ever come up with.
