10 Most Intense Pixar Movie Moments
6. Mike And Sully Chase After Boo’s Door - Monsters, Inc.
Pixar have a knack for coming up with great endings, and the final action sequence in Monsters, Inc. is no exception.
With Randall in pursuit, Mike and Sully are desperate to get Boo home, and their quest brings them to a vast room full of zooming doors. Holding on for dear life, the three of them experience something akin to a rollercoaster ride but without any safety belts.
Whilst this thrilling scenario also features some dashes of humour, the intensity shoots up once again when Randall grabs Boo and detaches the door, causing his two colleagues to plummet towards the ground. Panic-stricken, our heroes force themselves through the falling door and narrowly avoid death.
After jumping and swinging his way back to Boo, Sully ends up hanging on to the edge of Boo’s bedroom as Randall stamps on his fingers. Powerless to save himself, Sully only manages to escape a terrible fate thanks to Boo’s intervention.
The relentless momentum and the constant fear of falling are key to the intensity here. It’s an ingenious idea for a final chase and – once again – it’s especially tough to watch if you’re afraid of heights.
