10 Most Intense Western Duels Ever

6. The Wild Bunch (1969)

Tombstone Doc Holliday Final Duel
Warner Bros.

If you thought Quentin Tarantino made violent movies back in the nineties, then you have probably never seen 1969's The Wild Bunch. The movie was about a rugged band of outlaws trying to survive along the southern border of the United States in the early 20th century and it depicts what has to be one of the bloodiest and violent final battles in western movie history.

This is one of those scenes that can't exactly be described as a duel because it involves hundreds of people in what can only be called a brutal massacre.

The battle features the titular characters as they take on the Federales amidst grenades, small-arms fire, and a maxim machine gun, which takes centre stage.

The fight was precipitated by the gunning down of Mapache in front of his men, immediately after the slitting of Angel's throat. The fight that ensued as a result of that standoff went down in cinematic history as one of the bloodiest ever filmed. Thanks to jump cuts and slow motion, the fight is dragged on in the goriest way possible before the final shot is fired and the dust settles on the dead.
