3. Prince Tarn (Ernie Reyes, Jr.) - Red Sonja
Red Sonja had just a ton of flaws. The reality is she is a tough character to translate in any media outside of comics or pulp fiction. However, in many ways the movie was brought to a crashing halt do to Price Tam played by Ernie Reyes Jr. In fairness, Reyes was playing a spoiled prince who got everything he wanted. Again, like the Spleen, the character seemed intended to be annoying. Somehow, Reyes took that character to the farthest extreme and made him nearly completely unlikable. Adding to the frustration was the pitch of Reyes voice. His voice appeared modulated somehow when you watch the film but nearly every bit of his dialogue is like nails on a chalkboard. It is worse when he shouts his battle cries when fighting or practicing. Again, the tone sounds modulated as I have seen him in other films and his voice is not near that high but he did have a high voice. Granted he was a child at the time as well. Then you add in the way he treated his poor servant, Falkon, and you cannot help but hate him a little. Prince Tam literally steps all over the lug whose only concern is the Prince and his well-being. This does make the Falkon much more likable though as you see loyalty to the extreme. Again, this is intentional but the movie was already low before Tam marched into it.
2. Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) - Thor
Poor Darcy, she was a fish out of water before Thor arrived and was worse off afterwards. Watching the film you have to wonder why she is even with Jane Foster, that is beyond the joke line of her being the only one who applied. Thor was a pretty good and solid film but Darcy nearly brought the whole house down. Her only redeeming feature was the fact that she had such a small role in the film. Thing is I could see her being very likeable but most of the time she came across like a simple airhead in a room full of geniuses (and in this case I am including Thor in that statement). Almost all of Darcys lines were in reference to how hot Thor was as if we needed reminding somehow. These kinds of characters pop up in action movies all the time. The not quite as hot friend who crushes on the hero but only gets to admire from afar and in each and every case they rub audiences the wrong way. Darcy disappears mid way through Thor and only reappears in the background, which is her saving grace. She could have been given a bit more to do besides remarking on Thors hotness though. She could have been a likeable character even if given more character. Of course, she back for the sequel so maybe she will have more of a character or maybe she will just keep fawning over Thor.
