10 Most Irritatingly Improbable Sports Movies

7. Major League

D2 The Mighty Ducks
Paramount Pictures

Basically the plot of Major League is the sports version of The Producers, focusing on an owner's attempt to assemble the worst team ever for personal gain backfires spectacularly. But in this case, it just doesn't make any sense.

Sure, most viewers can probably sympathize with her desire to move the team out of Cleveland. But the idea is that if she has a terrible team, ticket sales will be so low that she can relocate the team, is fundamentally flawed from the beginning.

All of the evidence that one can look at from cities like Cleveland and Buffalo that have sports teams that rarely if ever win championships shows that despite their efforts to produce the worst team ever assembled, fans still go to games.

There is nothing on this earth that could stop the dedicated fans of an eternally hopeless franchise from attending. So at the end of the day, it doesn't even matter that the team somehow learns how to stop being dysfunctional and play actual baseball (although that in itself is fairly improbable) - the entire premise is on shaky ground.
