2. Slow Motion Screaming In Looper
The Moment: Troublesome children are something Super Nanny has warned us about plenty of times, but none are quite as troublesome as little Cid in Looper who, with a quick change of emotions, can become a telekinetic whoop-ass dispenser. This involves a lot of things being lifted off the ground, a lot of screaming and it all being shown in painfully emphatic slow motion.
The Stupidity: Ive never been a fan of slow motion; but in an intense, pacy film about time travel and sci-fi it feels even more stupid. On top of that there is the fact these slow motion scenes are very, very slow... and an extremely close, close, close-up of a small boy screaming which, in a very serious film, is a little bit... well... farcical to look at. Even more than this though there is the fact that it keeps happening to break up the film's explosive final act with even more close-ups of a screaming child to test your unflinching nerve in this situation. Unfortunately the overall effect is that its as silly as a Monty Python sketch, encouraging you to laugh at a wholly inappropriate moment.
