3. The Final Fight In The Hobbit
The Moment: The film's 873rd chase scene ends with the dwarves confronted by Thorins nemesis (Azog) who comes to defeat him once and for all.
The Stupidity: The Hobbit is 6 chapters of a book turned in to 3 hours of cinema. Just let that sink in. You could have saved the money and time by reading that part of the book in about 40 minutes. So, how did they achieve this remarkable feat? Well the ending fight felt like 3 hours in itself with Peter Jackson completely punching what was great about the LOTRs fights in the face. Adding pumped up melodrama through slow motion, an unbelievably abrasive score and action that isnt even marginally awe-inspiring just made the film feel slow and comical. With each slow motion turn, reaction or facial expression the scene devolves more and more in to something comical. It's proof that slow motion close ups of peoples faces accompanied with the most melodramatic music in history is more funny than it is impactful, and the whole sequence felt like a well-crafted spoof of a over dramatize Hollywood fight.
