8. Tomorrowland's Trailer Missed The Whole Point
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWZ7O-RrATY The Film: Tomorrowland What It Promised: An expansive and magical voyage to a land beyond our wildest dreams and expectations. What It Actually Was: Brad Bird's ingenious, forward-thinking and endlessly imaginative Tomorrowland was a drastic commercial flop; so much so that from it's $190 million budget and near $300 million promotional output, the Disney sci-fi extravaganza gathered a tiny $208.6 million at the global box-office. The vast irony behind all that money making its way down the drain is this: it was the reason it failed so drastically. So much effort was made to render Bird's film as a dizzying space odyssey that a large percentage of the trailers entirely missed the picture's point. This is a beautifully transporting work in a singular sense, but Tomorrowland dares to be bolder than just a cliched other-worldly opera by posing questions that actually matter. Had Disney made a valid point of presenting both sides of the spectrum, the film would have likely fared better domestically and internationally. One is certain that in years to come, people will realise it is actually a misjudged masterpiece.
