10 Most Notorious Star Wars Urban Legends
1. An Angry Artist Made C-3PO Very Happy
Verdict: Untrue (probably)
Rounding out this list of Star Wars urban legends is one of the best known, and certainly the funniest.
The franchise is easily among the most financially successful film series ever made, but Star Wars takes things to another level as far as merchandising is concerned. There was unprecedented demand for the action figures and toys that came out shortly after Episode IV was released, and fans have since been able to indulge their love of the films via everything from cartoons to computer games to bed sheets.
And, of course, there are the Topps trading cards. One of which catches the eye more than most.
So how did C-3PO become so, er, happy? According to the official Star Wars website, it was just a case of freak timing:
The untouched archive photo shows the image just as it appears on the card. The current theory is that at the exact instant the photo was snapped, a piece fell off the Threepio costume, and just happened to line up in such a way as to suggest a bawdy image. The original contact sheets from the photo-shoot attest to this.
Youd expect nothing less from official sources, so it's still plausible that a disgruntled, mischievous artist was responsible for this image. Whatever the truth of the matter, as C-3PO himself would say, Oh dear.
