Despite the fact that Jared Leto's Joker will have a leading role in Suicide Squad, it won't be as a member of the team. Instead, he will be transferred to Belle Reve from Arkham Asylum by Amanda Waller, and it's at this point that Deadshot and Harley Quinn end up being captured too. Details are muddled, but it's been said that he's trying to assassinate The Joker and she's trying to break him out. From there, The Joker ends up in a cell. His role has been described as being like Hannibal Lecter, and the Clown Prince of Crime shares scenes with everyone from Waller to Quinn and even Dr. Hugo Strange. By the time Suicide Squad ends though, The Joker breaks out, slaughtering everyone in his way on his way out. That obviously sets up an appearance in a future Batman movie pretty perfectly, and it's sounding more and more like he'll be the real star of Suicide Squad.
