10 Most Overlooked Films Of This Decade
5. Killer Joe (2011)
Matthew McConaughey has enjoyed quite the career resurgence in recent years, appearing in such hits as Interstellar, Dallas Buyers Club and The Wolf of Wall Street. He's also shown off his versatility, playing a male stripper in Magic Mike one minute, and a closeted gay lawyer in Lee Danielsās The Paperboy the next.
One of his most challenging roles came in 2011's Killer Joe, in which he played a crooked cop who moonlights as a hired killer, and he knocked it out of the park. He came across as haunting, menacing and dramatic all at once.
Exorcist director William Friedkin channelled his love for pulpy film noir in this lurid dark comedy, which turned out to be his best movie for some years.
Killer Joe is violent and darkly comic, but there's substance to its grizzled Southern exterior thanks to a strong showing by McConaughey and his supporting cast comprised of Emile Hirsch, Juno Temple, Gina Gershon and Thomas Haden Church.
