9. Peter Takes out the Trash (Spider-Man)
In
Spider-Man, there's a magnificent scene between the two leads (Maguire and Dunst) that always leaves me somewhat stupefied. The first time we see them actually have a full conversation where Parker isn't completely stumbling around his words and MJ doesn't have to rush off because of her popularity. It's not their first "moment" together, but it's the first time they
both share a connection towards each other. As Peter takes out the trash, he looks into the next yard and finds Mary Jane rushing out of her home, tearful after another heated exchange with her emotionally abusive father. Peter doesn't do much consoling and Mary Jane is quick to change the subject. The two get closer and begin to discuss their futures and Pete somehow manages across some confidence that really plays off quite well. It could arguably be the best exchange in the entire movie because it manages to be sweet, sincere, and never falls too heavily for either character. It's definitely a scene where it's not what's being said that takes center stage.
Mary Jane: You know, you're taller than you look. Peter Parker: I hunch. Mary Jane: Don't.
