What The Critics Said: “Like last year’s Chronicle, here’s another reminder that in the right hands, found footage still has plenty of capacity to surprise.” (Empire)

Why They’re Wrong: VHS is an anthology of 10 found footage segments linked by the connecting story of a group of misfits who steal and watch a videocassette, but don’t go expecting a film in the tradition of the old Amicus movies. Most of the “stories” here are so slight they wouldn't even pass muster as short films.

Unlikely to elicit any response other than cries of “huh?” and “is that it?”, VHS is a great gimmick, but a gimmick is all it is. Strung together, the segments become too much of a muchness, and after a while it’s tough to care about what’s going on.
