10 Most Overrated Horror Films Of The Past 20 Years
7. Final Destination
What The Critics Said: “An unexpectedly alert teen-scream disaster chiller.” (Entertainment Weekly)
Why They’re Wrong: Remember the sequels to The Omen? They all seemed to be built around gory set pieces that attempted to top David Warner’s decapitation in the original, didn’t they? Well, if you quadruple their number and make all the victims pretty teenagers, then you’ve got Final Destination, which if nothing else launched a new subgenre – “slaughter porn.”
A film whose sole suspenseful element is anticipating how the next teenage dunderhead will be done in, Final Destination is another horror film where the gimmick is more important than the characters. Forget logic, screw motivation and full steam ahead is the movie’s attitude, and if you’re on board for that, then you'll love the sequels - they're just the first movie remixed.
