10 Most Overrated Movies On IMDb's Top 250
8. Bohemian Rhapsody (#123)
Maybe the most controversial pick so far, it’s been clear to many that Rhapsody was gutted after director Bryan Singer was outed as a predator and the film was handed to Dexter Fletcher. There were even conflicts during pre-production about the tone the film should take, but the film released in October to plenty of praise from fans, and it has an astonishing 31,000 10/10 reviews on IMDb currently.
Unfortunately, this is a case of infatuation with the material before seeing the film. Queen is a legendary band and Mercury is a legendary man, but if you put that aside while watching, you’ll find yourself disappointed with anything but Rami Malek’s great acting.
The movie glosses over huge chunks of Freddie’s life while misrepresenting other parts - the story of his gay life is stereotypical at best, a little offensive at worst, and the other characters are boring and flat. When this movie is top 250 and Straight Outta Compton, a much more engaging film isn’t? It’s disappointing for the NWA fan in all of us.
