10 Most Overused Lines In Movie History

7. "I Could Tell You But I'd Have To Kill You"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=VuE_jqYNi3c If that line is typically confined to one or two genres, here's one that goes just about everywhere; it appears in thrillers where a character might ask another who a mysterious figure they just dispatched was, and can be used far more effectively in comedies, where a girl asks a guy who he is, and he playfully retorts the line, pretending he's some sort of mysterious enigma. But alas, like every other entry on this list, it's been done to death; it was an amusing subversion the first twenty times, but after several hundred, I'm just thoroughly fed up of it. I feel bad for whoever first used the line in a comedy; they probably thought they were being incredibly witty, and they were, but the line's now been run into the ground by a glut of thoughtless writers who refuse to stray from the formula. At least Piper Perabo's character in Coyote Ugly had the good sense to retort, "That's original". Unfortunately most films that use the line don't have the same self-awareness.
