Arriving at the beginning of VHS's decades-long reign, John Carpenter's Halloween is one of the most-paused movies of all time, but not for blood or gore or hidden details. No, fans have been smashing that pause button over the years to capture a proper glimpse of the mysterious Michael Myers' (Nick Castle/Tony Moran) face.

In Halloween, the town of Haddonfield is stalked by Myers, who has escaped confinement in a sanatorium and intends to reopen the trail of murder he began by killing his sister on Halloween night 15 years previously, but this time focusing his attention on teenage babysitter Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis).

Towards the end of the film, Michael catches up to and corners Laurie, and as she struggles with him she manages to pull his mask over his head, revealing his face for the first and only time in the film -- and one of the few times in the entire series. We get two brief glimpses, cast in shadow, of the original stalker-slasher, whose face has gone covered for the duration.

The thing is, Michael Myers is his inverted William Shatner mask, and while we rapt audience members don't want the mystique ruined, we can't help but hanker for a glimpse at his ugly mug and the evil that lies beneath.
