10 Most Paused James Bond Moments
1. Honey Rider's Introduction - Dr. No
In Sean Connery's first outing as the MI6 secret agent, James Bond heads to Jamaica to investigate a radio jamming that's disrupted a rocket launch. While on Crab Key island, he stumbles upon a shell diver called Honey Ryder, played by Ursula Andress. Dressed in a white bikini, 007 is unable to stop himself from eyeing up Ryder's Venusian-like beauty.
The pair's banter may be well-written and Ryder's singing is charming but it's that shot of the Swiss model standing, almost defiantly, towards Bond that viewers remember most.
The scene may seem simple now but at the time, it was mind-blowing to see a person in a two-piece bathing suit in a major film. This moment helped solidify Bond's reputation as a ladies man, catapulted bikini sales, launched Ursula Andress' career overnight, and created one of the most striking shots in cinema. It's so synonymous with Bond, the shot was recreated with Halle Berry's Jinx in the 20th film, Die Another Day. (Hell, her white bikini has its own wikipedia page!)
When Bond cheekily comments that he's "just-looking" at her, we all know he wasn't the only one.
