10 Most Paused James Bond Moments
4. The Car Flip - The Man With The Golden Gun
Despite the fact Bond has a plethora of overelaborate chase scenes and action sequences, its greatest stunt is very simple in principle. During a car chase in The Man with the Golden Gun, Bond drives off a broken bridge, causing his vehicle to perform a sideways flip before landing perfectly on the other side of the bridge.
This phenomenal shot was so complex, it took two years to prepare. In fact, it was the first stunt to be calculated by a computer. Nevertheless, the crew members were so certain it would end in failure, divers, cranes, and ambulances were on standby in case the driver, Bumps Williams, crashed. Luckily, he performed the astoundingly dangerous shot in a single take.
Even though this corkscrew flip is one of the greatest stunts in cinematic history, it happens too quickly for viewers to really appreciate it. As a result, most viewers pause and analyse the shot frame-by-frame, which just makes one appreciate the amount of effort put into this stunt even more.
If it wasn't for the ridiculous whistling sound effect the director inserted into this shot, the stunt would've been perfect.
