5. The Nazgul's True Form

Ian Holm Bilbo
New Line Cinema

When Sauron's forces discover the One Ring is in the possession of Frodo, Saruman sends out his most loyal servants, the Nazgul, to hunt down the hobbit.

The Nine Black Riders were once respected kings but were transformed into Ringwraiths after Sauron bestowed each of them with a magical ring. Because they are draped in cloaks and their faces are covered in shadow, viewers were curious what The Fallen Kings actually looked like.

And when Frodo put on the Master Ring in the presence of the wraiths in The Fellowship of the Ring, we got our first and only glimpse of these creatures' true form. But because everything is cast in a shimmering light when Frodo wears the Ring of Power, you can't really see what the Nazgul look like unless you pause it.

In their true form, Nazgul resemble withered corpses with marble-white skin. With Peter Jackson's experience in horror, it's clear his team put a ton of effort into the Nazgul' design, which is a shame because you only see it in the film for a fleeting moment.
