10 Most Paused MonsterVerse Moments
3. Barnes' Picture
All the other entries on this list are the most paused moments in the MonsterVerse for one of two reasons. Either they’re an epic and beautiful shot, or they feature an easter-egg of some sort. However, this entry is neither. It gets included because it’s just so damn funny.
As stated before, King Of The Monsters is a bit of a mess. Far too many human characters meant that the great actors playing them were unfortunately wasted. One such case was O’Shea Jackson Jr., who played Chief Warrant Officer Jackson Barnes.
Credit where it is due, Jackson certainly didn’t phone in his performance, probably because he is such an avid fan of all things Godzilla, something that he has stated in various interviews. It’s rather fitting then, that he would have such a standout moment in the movie, albeit one that went largely unnoticed at first.
As Barnes and his team attempt to escape the rampaging Rodan, he calls in to his superiors, where a picture of his face is displayed on a small section of a monitor. This alone is not the slightest bit significant. What is, is that for the picture, Jackson pulled the angriest/funniest face imaginable. The fact that this would actually be Barnes’ picture when he radios in, is questionable for sure, but unquestionably hilarious in the moment.
