The long-awaited reboot of the classic franchise boasted a strong critical reception, although most of the tastemakers in the industry were probably swept up in the sheen and splendour of Jurassic World rather than its storytelling or character merits. Bland archetypes are well in-place in the film, with even Chris Pratt's particular brand of ballsy charm and humour being diluted by Owen Grady's stoic, bleeding heart animal-loving persona. That's not to say there wasn't a ton of elements to be enjoyed within the film; the Mosasaurus, Jake Johnson's fanboy IT guy, and the fact that we see John Hammond's dream finally realised in a believable way (now that was a fantastic direction to take the story). The film ultimately lacked the depth and pathos of Spielberg's original, being a bit too shiny and light, but who's to argue with the #3 movie of all time?
